Must have books for 5 to 10 year old readers

Raising readers is very rewarding experience. But, it comes with a huge responsibility. Little readers are like sponges, they immediately absorb what they read. So, it is important to give them right kind of books, especially when children starts going to grade school. Giving books which talk about home culture helps them better connect with their roots. Also, it contributes to develop positive outlook towards their culture and value system. Because of this reason we have curated books written by Indian authors for 5 to 10 year old children.

1. Gopi Diaries Series By Sudha Murty :

This is a series of 3 books (Awaiting 3rd one) about the dog called Gopi. Book is written in Gopi’s voice. Sudha Murty’s inimitable writing style, beautiful illustrations and mischievous Gopi’s cute narration are highlights of these books.

In first book “Coming home“, Gopi talks about how he arrived in the new home and became part of loving human family. In the 2nd book Gopi narrates about new situations, challenges and surprises he face as he grows bigger and stronger.

2. Book-Asura series by Arundhati Venkatesh

This series contains stories about book loving boy Bala and his adventures with weird creatures Bookasura and Koobandhee. How the young protagonist Bala outwits the demons is an interesting read for children.

Insecurity and feel of being neglected after the arrival of new sibling, finding solace in grandparents company and facing one’s worst fears are some of the emotions which children can relate to. These feelings are portrayed beautifully in this series.

3. Princess’s Quest for knowledge by Soumya Torvi

Story of a brave Princess who fights all the odds to gain knowledge. One of the must have books in your child’s reading list. This book teaches good values to children through the character of Princess Vaishali. Also, it tells them some of the best characteristics one must have to enhance their personality.

4.We The children of India by Leila Seth

Very good book to introduce our kids to Indian Constitution. Author Leila Seth makes the subject appealing to the little readers by simplifying the topic.

Book gives details of pre Independence era, the need for Constitution in Independent India, Preamble to the constitution and high level details of how government works in democratic country like India.
