Use of Alexa in Engaging kids meaningfully

As parents we always look out for ways to engage our kids in a constructive manner isn’t it? We check for information on the internet , discuss with other parents/friends about the options to keep our kids away from screens right?

Being one such parent myself, I keep trying different things to avoid my 6 year old from getting hooked to screens. From past couple of months Alexa (Amazon Echo Device) has joined hands with us in this attempt.

Below are few options (available for free in the device library) which has worked well for us.

  • True or False: This game is like a quiz. You can decide on the number of players. Though the questions are not easy, kids love to play this game because answers are simple “Yes” or “No” and chances of getting correct answer is 50%. More fun if played as a family. Advantages are fun time, learning about interesting facts and improves listening skills. Since Alexa responds with nice words to encourage you, kids can play this game alone also. If you are a parent who wants to enrich your child’s knowledge bank then you can give more information about the age appropriate topic introduced by this game.
  • Suppandi Quiz: This is a game of whacky, clever riddles. Tinkle’s one of the most loved characters, Suppandi will challenge your brain with his crazy questions. Great Fun for kids and it acts as a brain teaser.
  • Memory Game: In this game you test your ability to remember a set of words given by Alexa. It adds new word in every round and asks you to repeat it in the same order. If you succeed then you move on to next round and new word is added to the list. This game helps to improve their attention and focus like any other visual memory game.
  • Magic Door: This is a game of exploring the magical land. Alexa narrates the story and gives you options to make different choices to proceed with your adventure. You need to solve the riddles, collect some items and help some creatures as you move on in the game. With its wonderful sound effects, it takes you to different land all together.  It helps kids (Even elders) to give wings to their imagination.
  • Chota Bheem Adventure:  In this game, you can join your favorite character Chota Bheem in Dolakpur as he leaves to find his friend Kalia, who has entered some magical cave! This is like you are in Bheem’s team and help him solve the riddles and make some decisions along the way. Which Chota Bheem admirer wants to miss the experience of being in Dholakpur and have fun with his hero?
  • Answer my questions: Another fun activity is simply asking questions to Alexa. By nature, kids are inquisitive and ask lot of questions, if you encourage them to ask right questions to Alexa, it serves as a learning and fun time. Awesome isn’t it?
  • Help to read and write: Alexa can be a great friend while sitting for homework or while reading a book. If your children need help with spelling, or meaning of a new word, or how to pronounce any given spellings, they can ask Alexa instead of you!!!
